Interfejs GIMP-a opiera się na aktywnym używaniu wszystkich przycisków i rolek (kółek) myszy oraz na otwieraniu dużej liczby okien, co widać na zamieszczonych obok obrazkach. Okna, zawierające palety i narzędzia, można grupować w zakładki, dzięki czemu interfejs zyskuje na przejrzystości, a liczba otwartych okien znacznie się zmniejsza. Dzięki wykorzystaniu biblioteki GTK+ do tworzenia interfejsu programu szybko powstały wersje dla wielu systemów operacyjnych. Dostępne są wersje dla Mac OS, Linuksa oraz Microsoft Windows. Planowane jest zastąpienie GTK+ biblioteką GEGL, która m.in. obsługuje więcej niż 8 bitów na kanał.
GIMP jest wolnym oprogramowaniem, rozprowadzanym na licencji GNU GPL. Jego zwolennicy porównują go do płatnego Paint Shop Pro czy nawet do narzędzia profesjonalistów, Adobe Photoshop. Dzięki filtrom możliwości programu są znacznie rozszerzone.

Now I could have just listed off the features that the developer had put together, but I actually think the developer is rather modest of what the program is truly capable of. So I put together my own set of features highlighting all of the things that I find to be the most useful in Cobian:

• Can be installed as a service, which means it is able to run even when a user isn't logged into the computer
• 3 different types of backups are available:

1. Full backups: Every single file in the source will be copied or compressed. If you are overwriting, every file will be replaced. If Overwrite is unchecked, you will have several copies of the same source.
2. Incremental: The program will check if the source has been changed from the last backup. If there is no need to copy the file, it will be skipped, saving backup time. The incremental procedure checks the Archive bit attribute of the file. You may want to manually reset the attribute to force a full backup: use the “Set the archive attributes? on the Task menu.
3. Differential: The program will check if the source has been changed from the last FULL backup. If there is no need to copy the file, it will be skipped, saving backup time. The differential procedure checks the Archive bit attribute of the file. You may want to manually reset the attribute to force a full backup: use the “Set the archive attributes? on the Task menu.
4. Dummy task: This backup doesn't need a source or a destination. It is useful to use the task just as an scheduler to execute applications, close services, reboot the computer, etc.

• Remotely connect to and manage your backups (Cobian will need to be installed on both the host and client machine to do this). Go to Tools -> Remote Client in Cobian to access this feature.
• Backup to or from a network or FTP location
• Compress your backups using 7-Zip or regular ZIP
• Split the compressed files up into multiple files according to a maximum size that you specify
• You can have multiple source and/or destinations
• You can have a timestamp added to backup filenames so that existing backups are not overwritten
• Perform a variety of actions before and/or after a backup starts:

1. Pause for a specified duration
2. Start or close a program
3. Start or stop a service
4. Restart or shutdown the computer

• If you choose to perform an incremental or differential backup you can set Cobian to automatically do a full backup every X backups, where “X? is any number you want.

Idlebackup V1.15 BETA easy backup (+ZIP) and restore

Idlebackup features

- Easy to use backup program also suited for non-advanced users.
- Easy restore, select directories and/or files to restore.
- Incremental backup, selected directories and files are copied to a set backup path (1:1)
No compression is used, ZIP compression is to be added soon.
The first backup is a full backup, then each next backup will copy only changed files,
no files are deleted (with option "Synchronize backup" is set to off). Backup files are
placed in a special directory HD_X, the structure (tree) of directories are the same as
on the source disk, therefore making it possible to browse through your backup set.
- Option "Synchronize backup" can remove unused files, so only files that are also present
on the source hard-disk are kept. See backup description.
- Manual or Automatic backup (with a set interval time) during idle time of the computer.
- In Automatic mode Idlebackup will work invisibly in the background, and only if idle
(no keys,mouse actions detected). Status is visible by icon color in sytem tray
- After a manually started backup, you can select to shutdown Windows
- Autostart option
- Can also copy large files > 2Gb.
- Backup mail data of Thunderbird, Outlook, Outlook Express (see site idlebackup.nl, usage examples)
- Backup medium = hard-disk/usb-stick/usb-drive or network.
- Normal windows installation/deinstallation.
- With backup option 3 (computer name in backup path) suited for making backups from multiple
computers to one external storage (USB-hard-disk).

This Freeware program has no restrictions and does not contain any Spyware, Adware or Viruses.

OverDisk v0.11 beta

OverDisk is a disk usage browser. It can be used to quickly find out how a partition's space is distributed among the file system hierarchy.

I've currently stopped working on it, due to a bug in the libraries of the original developing environment. However, I intend to move the project into another suite and incorporate more features from some other utilities I have. So, stay tuned... final version coming Real Soon Now™
